Equality Champion (Tr)

As part of NASUWT’s ongoing work to promote equality, dignity and inclusion in the workplace, NASUWT has introduced the Equality Champion role.

The Equality Champion is a voluntary, non-elected role undertaken by union members in their own workplace. The role is intended to supportcolleagues, promote awareness of equality issues, andencourageinclusive practice at a local level.

It is supportive and preventative in nature, similar in principle to roles such as Mental Health First Aiders.

Equality Champions work alongsideexisting NASUWT Workplace Representatives, complementing rather than replacing established union roles. The role focuses on signposting, awareness-raising and early support anddoes not involve casework or formal representation.

As this is a workplace role requiring continuity and familiarity with the organisation, it is suitable for permanent members of staff.
